slide imageThe past couple of decades have made a remarkable difference in our ability to treat and evaluate treatment success of common urologic conditions. While early detection and improved surgical techniques have led to improved treatment results, the ability of physicians to evaluate, objectively, the results of surgery has also improved. This site shares the work of Dr. Michael J. Harris, who has devoted his career to improving the results of the treatment of prostate diseases and incontinence.

Dr. Harris of the Northern Institute of Urology, PC was born and raised in Escanaba, Michigan. He received his Medical Degree at the University of Michigan and completed his surgical internship and urology residency at the University of Kentucky. After two U.S. Air Force assignments, Dr. Harris moved to Northern Michigan and initiated a comprehensive clinical research program that critically evaluates the treatment results of prostate cancer, prostate disease, female incontinence, and other areas of adult urology. Dr. Harris' surgical and clinical practice has evolved based upon clinical research input to improve results. Since the late 1990s, he has become active in medical system reform and similarly incorporates the concept of an ethics-based, private patient-physician relationship into daily practice. He has held teaching and administrative positions at Henry Ford Hospital and the John Dingel V.A. Medical Center in Detroit as well as OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, Michigan. In October 2022, he returned to practice adult urology in affiliation with Novello Specialty Clinic in Traverse City, Michigan.
