Ericsson and Qualcomm have successfully completed the over-the-air 5G New Radio (NR) call on CBRS (Citizen Broadband Radio Service) spectrum in a recent field trial.

Ericsson has been selected by Telenet as their 5G radio access network (RAN) provider, bringing wide-reaching benefits of 5G to Belgium. As part of their expanded partnership, Telenet will use Ericsson’ 5G radio access network (RAN) technologies for faster, reliable and more energy-efficient connectivity.

Telecom operator Tele2 has selected Nokia to deploy Standalone (SA) 5G Core and Voice over 5G (Vo5G) to enhance its cloud infrastructure and improve data and voice connectivity for its subscribers in Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. Deployment is expected to start in 2021.

Earlier this month, 3GPP Technical Specification Groups (TSG) announced a firm Release 17 timeline after considering the effects that e-meetings in 2020 had on the work’s progress and the pressure that cancellation of all face-to-face meetings has created.

Qualcomm and NTT DOCOMO have together enabled the commercialization of 5G sub-6 GHz carrier aggregation (sub6-CA) in Japan, effective immediately, to bring multi-gigabit mobile experiences to DOCOMO customers.

Nokia has launched a live 5G network trial in Colombia with mobile operator Claro Colombia. The pilot will cover mobile, fixed wireless access (FWA) and corporate 5G services in 3.5GHz spectrum.

Ericsson and China Telecom (Sichuan) have successfully completed 5G Standalone (SA 5G) Ericsson Spectrum Sharing data call on a commercial network. The milestone was achieved recently on China Telecom’s 2.1GHz commercial 5G network in Deyang City, Sichuan Province.

Samsung and KDDI have announced the successful completion a 5G end-to-end (E2E) network slicing demonstration with a RAN Intelligent Controller (RIC) in Tokyo, Japan. 

Nokia and Singapore-based operator StarHub are conducting live 5G non-standalone (NSA) network trial across Singapore, running until 16 February 2021. By leveraging existing 4G infrastructure, the trial 5G network will allow StarHub to provide higher data bandwidth and reliable connectivity to its subscribers without a major infrastructure overhaul. 

Verizon has become the first U.S. communications service provider to receive a 5G base station manufactured at Ericsson’s new 5G production factory in Texas. Kyle Malady, CTO, Verizon, received the first U.S. manufactured commercial 5G base station from Ericsson’s new factory in Texas. 

Nokia has been selected by Taiwan Mobile (TWM) as the sole supplier of its 5G network in a three-year framework deal worth approximately 400 million euros. The initial phase of the deal, which includes 5G RAN, 5G Core and 5G IMS, begins this month

Rogers has rolled-out 5G network in downtown Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. It is also deploying 5G in major Canadian sporting, entertainment and events venues: Rogers Centre in Toronto; Scotiabank Arena in Toronto; and Rogers Arena in Vancouver.

Earlier this week, Nokia announced that it has achieved the record 5G speeds in its Over-the-Air (OTA) network in Dallas, Texas. Utilizing 800 MHz of commercial millimeter wave 5G spectrum and Dual Connectivity (EN-DC) functionality, Nokia achieved 5G speeds of up to 4.7 Gbps in tests performed on base station equipment being deployed in major U.S.
