Future Politics was created with a production team of only women, something I feel like is important to talk about if only to highlight the huge gender disparities that exist behind-the-scenes of music making.

It seems to me that we as humans always need a prominent archetype to exist in order to compare and understand something else. The archetype of the female mixing engineer and the female mastering engineer does not yet seem to exist, while fortunately, that of the female producer is finally beginning to take shape.

Let the women who worked on this record, Alice Wilder and Heba Kadry, begin to shape and contribute to those archetypes and help all of our feeble minds comprehend the undeniable genius of the many women working behind a mixing board.

Future politics is the realization That we have the power to imagine, invent and create a life for ourselves that is different. We have the power to turn against everything we know to be true and interject a new meaning, new truths into our individual existence and also the existence of the whole human society.

Don’t accept anything you’ve been told about an appropriate way to live. We don’t have to have families, have babies, have meaningless jobs. We don’t have to define ourselves, our sexualities, our genders. our society doesn’t have to have an abstract currency controlled by the worlds elite, we don’t have to live in a world where humans can be kicked out of their self made homes because the abstract currency is elusive to them. Beauty doesn’t have to be what we see in the magazines, and success doesn’t have to depend on it. We don’t have to take part in a system that favours white people and oppresses people of colour. We don’t have to be strangled by debt. We don’t have to burn fossil fuels to function, we don’t have to be spied on, to go to war. We don’t have to believe in individualism, socialism, conservatism, neoliberalism, we can believe in something that doesn’t exist yet.

Future politics is a future, and for any future the possibilities are endless.

Melancholia — Lars von Trier (2011)

“It’s a great shame that we melancholiacs don’t value rituals. I’m having a tough time at parties myself. Now we’ll all have fun, fun, fun. Perhaps because melancholiacs set the stakes higher than at just a few beers and some music… It seems so phony. Rituals are, you know. But if rituals are worth nothing, that goes for everything.”

“Beneath your dancing feet are the tombs of tortured men - Thus does the Red Death rebuke your merriment!”

The original 1925 release of The Phantom of the Opera contained 17 minutes of Technicolor footage (plus a stenciled color insert). Only the Bal Masque sequence survives intact.

yessss

All of our politicians are totally incapable of dealing with the impending apocalypse. And so, they must be replaced. In fact, the whole system must be replaced, and it is your job to imagine a new one!

The Utopia video is set in a not too far off dystopian future. A woman lives in a bland condo village and her only social interaction is with a machine built by the largest corporation in the world: rainforest. Its a sad prediction of where we are headed, but also a reminder that we have to keep believing in the alternatives.

The record was mixed (alice wilder), mastered (heba kadry), and produced (katie and maya) by all women.

The video was directed by that go.

Our New Record “Future Politics” is coming out January 20th !!

Each person’s fantasy of the future is valid and possible and one should never feel like their imaginations can’t become the truth. I’ve written new music while following this path and am completely terrified (partially excited) to share it with you.

“Future Politics” will be released January 20.
