Our Philosophy

The Institute’s purpose is to provide excellence in patient hernia repair at a minimal expense to the insurance carrier and the patient. This philosophy evolved through 28 years of experience and success utilizing specialized polypropylene mesh. Our friendly rapport with our patients and with insurance companies has allowed us to grow to become a center of excellence in hernia repair.
From one center, we have expanded to multiple locations throughout California. We have enlarged our staff by selecting Board Certified Surgeons with interest in the advance of hernia repair techniques. Working with local outpatient centers and hospitals, these surgeons were trained, observed by N.A.H.I. staff, and then qualified to join the Institute. Our present hernia repair has evolved over many years into a straightforward outpatient mesh reinforced herniorrhaphy.

WHAT CAUSES A HERNIA?

The majority of hernias result from a combination of pressure and a weakness in a muscle or fascia; the pressure causes the opening or weak spot to allow an organ or tissue to pass through. This is caused by a force that increases the abdominal pressure like:

Heavy lifting without the proper muscle stabilization
Constant coughing or sneezing
Diarrhea and constipation

Our greatest commitment is to your well-being. We will gladly assist you to help you recover your quality of life and your health. We are specialists in the treatment of all types of hernias.

Types of Hernia

HIATAL HERNIA

Hernias of the hiatus occur when the upper stomach presses through the diaphragm through which the esophagus passes.

INCISIONAL HERNIA

It typically occurs in elderly or obese people with sedentary lifestyles following abdominal surgery. This type is more common in people who are overweight and inactive after abdominal surgery.

INGUINAL HERNIA

A groin hernia occurs when your large intestine or bladder pokes through your abdominal wall into your inguinal canal. Most groin hernias are inguinal, and they are most common in men due to a weak area in their groin.

FEMORAL HERNIA

Hernias of the femoral artery occur when the intestines enter the canal carrying the femoral artery toward the upper thigh. Femoral hernias most often affect pregnant women and obese individuals.

UMBILICAL HERNIA

Umbilical hernias are caused when part of the small intestine passes through the abdominal wall near the navel. It can also affect obese women or mothers who have had several children
