  • Company History

In 1996, David Gilmour founded Natural Waters of Viti Ltd, after he found a substantial artesian aquifer on the north side of Viti Levu, Fiji's main island. The unique, soft taste, mineral content and isolation of the water convinced Gilmour he had found the purest water on earth: 1,500 miles from the nearest continent (Australia), water that has remained free of acid rain, trace pesticides and other pollutants caused by the world's population. Gilmour immediately decided to bottle this rare water.

The origin of FIJI Natural Artesian Water is rainfall, which filters through volcanic stone over hundreds of years on the main island of Viti Levu in Fiji.

Separated by over 1,500 miles of open Pacific from the nearest continent, this virgin ecosystem creates one of the purest waters in the world. FIJI Water tastes soft and clean, light and refreshing because of its uniquely balanced mineral mix: low in calcium and magnesium and other hard-tasting minerals, and rich in silica, the body's greatest energizing nutrient.

The FIJI Water aquifer is a renewable source. The Pacific Basin enjoys the greatest amounts of rainfall every year, endlessly replenishing the source so that, no matter how much production may increase in the future, the health and viability of this remarkable aquifer will never be compromised.

    Innovations

The water is bottled at the source in a sterile atmosphere, using clean room specifications comparable to an intensive care surgery unit. All of this occurs in a state-of-the-art facility designed to respect and protect the local environment. The 110,000-square-foot plant, completed in November 2000, showcases the best planning in bottling processes, with systems designed to capture and conserve energy and reduce waste while dramatically boosting production capacity. The plant even has a sound absorbing system to safeguard the serenity of the valley.

The signature square bottle is made of PET resin, the highest grade available. PET is used for two reasons. First, it is lighter than glass and unbreakable. Secondly, it is kinder to the environment. It requires one-third less energy to recycle than glass, creates less solid waste per unit of content and achieves a higher recycle rate than glass.

The square bottle is a conscious choice, too, because it allows for more compact, secure and efficient shipping. Simply put, you can pack more water onto a pallet with a square bottle, with less wasted space. So the energy cost to ship is a little bit less per bottle. In addition, FIJI Water leaves the islands on cargo ships that are returning, basically empty, to the US mainland. This is simply an ecological bonus. So, there is no added burden of cargo traffic in and out of Fiji because of FIJI Water.

    Distribution

Stewart and Lynda Resnick purchased Fiji Water in 2004. Today Fiji is distributed throughout the world and is one of the world's leading brands.
