How It All Started

BioLogos was founded by one of the top biologists in the world, Francis Collins. He led the Human Genome Project and now directs the National Institutes of Health. In 2006, he wrote the best-selling book The Language of God in which he tells his journey from atheism to Christian belief, showing that science is not in conflict with the Bible, but actually enhances faith. The outpouring of response to the book showed the need for virtual and actual meeting places to ask questions, discuss issues, and learn from the top Christian minds in the sciences and theology.

In 2009, BioLogos launched its website, including the first Common Questions pages and a regular blog. Later in 2009, BioLogos held its first of several annual events in New York City, hosted by pastor Tim Keller, for leading pastors and theologians to gather with believing scientists for dialogue and worship.

Since then, the website has grown into a rich resource of videos, articles, and curricula from hundreds of authors. Other key programs include the “Biology by the Sea” workshop for high school teachers (2010-2012) and the “Evolution and Christian Faith” grants program which funded 37 projects across North America and Europe (2013-2015).

Today, BioLogos is based in Grand Rapids, Michigan under the leadership of Deborah Haarsma. In addition to browsing our website, you can interact with BioLogos on our online discussion forum, podcast, social media, events, speakers bureau, and national conference. Whether helping a young person through a faith crisis over science, strengthening the faith of a believing scientist, or equipping pastors and teachers to reach the next generation, BioLogos is changing lives.
