Alameda Fiberglass
Makers of Fiberglass dune buggy bodies.

On this page is the three styles that they made.
Older "Standard Body" and the newer "Pickup bed" and "Standard Buggy"

2056 Clement St. Alameda, California
This is the building Alameda Fiberglass was in. It is now a welding shop (at time of photos).
Alamend Fiberglass made boats and buggies from the mid 60's to the mid 70's.
Mid 70's they moved to the foot of the San Mateo Bridge in Hayward, CA.
There they still made buggies (very few) and boats till they closed down.

When I purchased my body there (March of 1969?), the fence out front was not there. They lined up bodies
of different colors up along the front to pick from. One of the options was diamond dust they put in the
metal flake to make it glitter. Second option was a hard top (roof). Like you see below but without the rear window.
It came blank and if you wanted a window, you had to cut it in.

Stock Colors
Light green
Dark Green

All were metal flake colors but I can not say that they didn't make special orders.

Stephen Martin's Buggy

This is before he refurbished it.
It has the hard top option on it that Alameda Fiberglass offered.

This looks to be the original purple metal flake color.

After Refurbishment!

In N.Calif at this time
This is a re-paint. I don't think it is original color.

Also looks to be purple metal flake. This was a very popular color.

Truck #1

Archie Rundle's Truck Bed Body Buggy
One of the last of the bodies made in Alameda
First of the Pickup bodies started in Alameda and made at Hayward after moving.

This is a later model (around 1973?) of Alameda Fiberglass. They added a pickup bed model in the 70's
Also they offered the side skirts and rear engine cover as an extra, which this buggy has.

The top was from a standard buggy that was "cut down" to fit the pickup body.
You can see the seam in the fiberglass just to the rear of the halfway point.

Rear engine cover (fiberglass) was an extra

This is Archie Rundle. He worked at Alameda Fiberglass until it moved.
Here he is 87 years old and this is his buggy.

It uses a flat "pancake style" engine, but a standard engine will also fit.
