Apparently, it is possible to be converted from a humorous joker into one of the UK’s most powerful politicians. It’s also possible to be converted from a Labour to a Conservative supporter. But there’s been a brouhaha this week over a proposed advertising campaign in London which suggests gay people can be converted to heterosexuality.
Boris has stepped in to ban bus adverts by two conservative Anglican groups that suggest being gay can be ‘cured’. The adverts were booked on behalf of the Core Issues Trust whose leader, Mike Davidson, believes ‘homoerotic behaviour is sinful’. The Guardian reports that ‘his charity funds reparative therapy for gay Christians, which it claims can ‘develop their heterosexual potential’.’
The advert was due to say: “Not gay! Post-gay, ex-gay and proud. Get over it!”
Bozza announced he was stopping the adverts within two hours of their contents becoming public. The Mayor said: “London is one of the most tolerant cities in the world and intolerant of intolerance. It is clearly offensive to suggest that being gay is an illness that someone recovers from and I am not prepared to have that suggestion driven around London on our buses.”
Winning the Mayoral election was going to be a walk in the park for Ken until he failed to defend his tax arrangements.
