Visit
Amy’s Bread in
Hell’s Kitchen

As the smell of freshly baked sweets drifts onto Ninth Avenue, locals and tourists alike line up outside, waiting to try one of the many treats for sale. We invite you to visit our bakery/café with its iron racks filled with a full selection of our freshly baked, handmade sourdough bread, the marble counter piled high with baked goods, and glass cases displaying all our sweets, a variety of breakfast pastries, cakes for every occasion and sandwiches made on Amy’s Bread. We offer hot coffee from Fonté and delicious espresso drinks.

An oasis in the heart of midtown, Amy’s Bread is a cross between a Parisian boulangerie and a cozy Midwestern kitchen. Our little café seats eighteen (we don’t take reservations and don’t have table service) and is open 7 days a week.

Amy opened the original location in 1992 in this narrow, 650-square-foot storefront. The building had housed a fish market since it was constructed in 1896, and it still had the old wood storefront with carved trim and bay windows. It was the last of its kind in the neighborhood, and although dilapidated and in great need of repair, it seemed the perfect place for a new, Old-World bread shop.  With the help of Amy’s family and friends, the space was renovated, and the store was reborn, looking as it had nearly a century before. The look and feel of the old shop has become an important part of the bakery’s identity.

Amy’s Bread is proud to be a neighborhood bakery for 30 years. We hope to see you on your next visit to the Theatre District, on a quick stop while driving toward the Lincoln Tunnel, or as you walk past our store on your way home.
