condiczek
IIRC the x series doesn't have testmode anymore. Not the old testmode, the new TESTMODE.KEY! (check here - testmode works on x920 x930 etc.)
Jason H
Hey everyone. I've been checking in on these forums for awhile since I got my X920BT installed last November. Anyway, I had a request if anyone had some spare time who gets the new update for the x920bt. Could someone take a video of new features with the new firmware and post a link on here? I'm actually surprised Pioneer hasn't taken any initiative to post a video preview of it anywhere, or at least from what I've been able to find. I've been waiting a long time for this update to come out, but I'm finding it hard to spend $120 on an update when I just brought it for $900 a year ago. I understand nearly every company charges for map updates, but not nearly as much as what's being charged here. It's absurd...
kelkin
I upgraded my x920 and have the traffic tuner, I'll see if I can make a video of the features
Jason H
Awesome kelkin, thanks!
carlos_fb
So is this upgrade worth the money or not?
barney stinson
update or the traffic tuner? here's my short review on the tuner that i wrote on amazon.com: it's not a cheap product by any means but it does the job. i wish the antenna cables were a bit longer since you may have to place the module in some other space other than right behind your x9xx radio. it may take a couple minutes for the unit to actually pick up the traffic reports. i'm not sure if that's the way TMC works, though. TMC may just be broadcasting the reports every few minutes instead of all the time. i've used it for a few days and so far it had me avoid congestion once in my SF bay area commute. the first time it suggested an alternate route, i drove the initial route anyway...there wasn't much traffic but it was under the speed limit which i guess is why it was reported. 5-10 MPH under the limit is still a good commute in this area. either way, this has given me a fix since i really, really love the traffic reroute feature on my iphone navigon.app. if you live in an area prone to congestion, i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this. carlos_fb
I meant the software update, thanks for sharing your comments on the tuner by the way.
freedumb
I'm curious what the bluetooth firmware update does. More specifically, I wonder if it's more of a fix for existing issues or just increased compatibility for newer devices. Unfortunately, my experiences with Pioneer customer service lead me to believe I'm not going to get the answer from them. I'm hoping someone will provide feedback here in the forum. jctek88
Ok so I've had this map/gui upgrade for my x920bt for a couple of days now and here is my mini review. Update was easy and took roughly 20 minutes to install. You must verify your unit's product ID number along with the map's ID card on pioneer's website which will then generate a code that you must enter into the unit right before it installs the update. The bluetooth firmware upgrade is on a separate sd card and must be updated manually in the units bluetooth settings. That took about 2 minutes. After everything software-wise was updated, I disassembled my dash to install the traffic tuner. The ability to have live traffic info is pretty much the main reason that makes it worth the $200 upgrade (120 map + 80 traffic tuner). The only other major gui difference that I noticed is when entering a destination into the navi...letters will now automatically disappear on the qwerty touchscreen if it does not make sense. This feature is often overlooked but is amazing and makes entering things much easier and faster. Just my two cents...
bashed1
I just installed the traffic tuner; the updates are really slow to post on my nav screen. I presume this is because each time you start up the unit, the traffic tuner must first find and connect to a local FM station that's broadcasting the data, then it must accumulate the data before it's able to display it. Anybody tried connecting power to the traffic tuner to a constant 12v source? I'm thinking that in an always-on state the tuner would be constantly receiving a stream of traffic data, and it would therefore always be current as soon as you turn on your car and begin driving. carlos_fb
So is it worth to get the update if you don't get the traffic tuner?
jctek88
I would say it's not worth it if you don't plan on getting the traffic tuner. Unless, however, you really need the new map data if your current maps do not recognize the area you drive around in. Also if you have an iPhone you might find the aha radio app useful which is also included in the update...I don't have an iPhone so that feature is useless to me. nosaJ-11C7
I thought that the new map update also added spoken street names to the navigation. Instead of saying "Right turn ahead" it would say "Right turn ahead on Main Street". The 2010 software could only speak freeway numbers. Can anyone confirm or deny this? Thanks! The update did not add spoken street names, however I'm pretty sure even with the old version I was able to enable a text-to-speech mode where instead of the female digitized voice it spoke with a computer generated voice and that mode *would* speak street names. -Keith
BrianOBrien
Does this update add App Mode to the 920? If it does does one need to change the cable from a CD-IU50V to a CD-IU51V? I've been told these cables are identical... I'm in Canada, so I never got to use Pandora, Msn Direct is canceled... I'm not sure about aha radio, but really I'd just be happy if my MotionX GPS Drive would work on this unit. And for that to happen, I believe I need "App Mode".
